(^^)This symbol near the name of a horse indicates that the owner is making the genetic squares of his horse viewable by all.
(€)This symbol near the name of a horse indicates that it is for sale at a fixed price.
(Oo)This symbol near the name of the mare indicates that she is carrying a foal.
A l'aveugle« Blind Mode » is a type of race registration, whereby the list of runners is anonymous until the end of registration. Only the number of entries is available and made public in real time.
AgeOn Newturf all virtual racehorses age faster than real life horses: Newturf virtual horses have indeed an official birthday every month (means they get one year older in the game on each beginning of a new calendar month) while real life horses celebrate their birthdays on January 1 in the Northern hemisphere and August 1 in the Southern.
All Newturf horses are born on the first of a month and are one year old right up until the last day of the month in which they were born. Their racing career ends on the first day of their ninth year (8 real months after being born), which means 9 real months after their birth. The stallions will then stay in the stable one additional virtual year / real month for reproduction purpose and will disappear (retirement) when they are ten years old while the mares will stay 3 additional virtual years / real months in the stable and will retire when they are 12 years old (12 real months after they are born).
AllocationSum of money paid to the Owner when his horse finished the race "with a profit" ie at a rank eligible for a reward.
The amount of allowances paid back during a race is equal to 100% of the total registration fee for the Category races in the Flat dicipline, and 93% for all other races (with 7% representing the commission of the Manager organizing the race).
Arc de Triomphe The PRIZE OF L'ARC DE TRIOMPHE is the biggest monthly race for the Flat discipline. It takes place on the day of each month.

All age groups are concerned, from 1 to 8 years old. Meaning that there are 8 races for the Prize of l'Arc de Triomphe(Prize of l'Arc de Triomphe for the aged 1, Prize of l'Arc de Triomphe for the aged 2, Prize of l'Arc de Triomphe for the aged 3, etc...).

€1,600.00 is allocated to this prestigious and eagerly awaited event each month. Each of the 8 races is indeed sponsored by €200.00 , which makes it the biggest race in terms of sponsorship.

The qualification of horses for the Prize of l'Arc de Triomphe takes place over 6 qualifying races with 12 runners each. The schedule is as follows:

- On the 05th: The Shanghai Derby over 1600M for all ages

- On the 09th: The Hong Kong Derby over 1600M (1 year and 2 years) and over 2200M (3 to 8 years)

- On the 13th: The Irish Derby over 2200M (1 year and 2 years) and over 3000M (3 to 8 years)

- On the 17th: The Dubai Derby over 2200M (1 year and 2 years) and over 1600M (3 to 8 years)

- On the 21th: The Epsom Downs Derby over 1600M (1 year and 2 years) and over 2200M (3 to 8 years)

- On the 27th: The Churchill Downs Derby over 2200M (1 year and 2 years) and over 3000M (3 to 8 years)

The entrance fee for each of these qualifying races is 2 €.
The status of the race is changed to preparation as from the first 12 nominations. Meaning first come first served.

Rules to qualify for the Prize of l'Arc de Triomphe:

- The winner of a qualifying round is immediately qualified for the Prize of l'Arc de Triomphe. In case the winner has already qualified, the runner-up takes the spot of automatic qualification.

- To add to the list of runners selected for the Prize of l'Arc de Triomphe (20 runners),a point system is used. It is based on the number of points scored during the qualifying rounds:
A horse scores as many points as the number of horses it overtakes in one of the 6 qualifying races.
In case of a tie(same number of points obtained) for the 20th and last qualified, the decision to choose between a horse or another will be made with respect to the number of qualifying rounds in which the horse participated (the horse which took part in a greater number of qualifying rounds will be selected).
If after this second selection criteria there is still a tie(same number of qualifying rounds) the decision will be based on the gross gains of the horses(the horse with a higher gross gain will be selected).

The great day of the "Final" :

The Prize of l'Arc de Triomphe is held every last day of the month as from 10p.m (the Prize of l'Arc de Triomphe for horses aged 1 takes place at exactly 10:01p.m, the race for horses aged 2 takes place at 10:02pm and it goes on like that for other age groups till 10:08p.m for horses aged 8).
The distance is 1600m for each age.
The sponsorship for each of the 8 finals amounts to €200.00.
The entry fee to the final is symbolic: it is only 10 Euro cents (€0.1).
Breeders' CupThe Newturf Breeders' Cup is a racing competition for 1 year old horses. Nomination must be made before the foal is born (deadline is at midnight on the last day of the previous month).

The first round is being held on the 2nd day of each month while the finals take place on the 6th.

Breeders' Cup's rules:

1) Nominations must be made between the 7 and the end of the month (last day at midnight).

2) Entry fee to the Breeders' Cup is €1 per horse ; it is debited upon registration.
Thereafter, there is no cost per entry in races, neither for the first round nor the finals.

3) A stable owner may enter as many foals he wants, there is no limitation.

4) First round races are created by Newturf on the first of the month. Each race has 12 runners. Horses that cannot be selected because of late entries (lack of horses to create an additional 12 runners race) are automatically disqualified and their owner is reimbursed.
Example: if there are 130 nominations in Flat Racing: creation of 10 races with 12 runners each, the last 10 registrations being cancelled.

5) First round races are created by picking up runners randomly amongst all nominated horses. Basically, you can have horses from the same stable in the same race.

6) First round races are being held on the 2nd. Races are scheduled so that all races are run on the same ground. All horses are ranked based on their race time.

7) Finals are created on the 5th.

8) The 12 best times for each racing type are qualified for the Major Finals (Flat Racing Final, Hurdling Final, Trotting Final).

9) From the 13th time onwards, 4 consolation races: between 13th and 24th time, then between 25th and 36th time, then between 37th and 48th time, then between 49t and 60th time.

10) Prizemoney distribution (100% of registration fees, plus a share of the Flat Racing Prizemoney Pool):
For each nomination in the Breeders' Cup (€1 entry fee), €0.6 goes to the Final and €0.4 goes to the 4 Consolation Finals.
There is nothing to win in the First Round races: the only purpose is to rank horses and qualify to the Final.

11) All 15 Breeders' Cup Finals (Major Final and 4 Consolation finals, X 3 racing types) are being held on the 6th:
- 8 pm London time for the Flat Racing
- 9 pm London time for the Hurdle Races
- 10 pm London time for the Trotting Races
Cagnotte CICThe Team Cup's prize money pool is the sum of money that funds allowances of the Team Cup finals.
The Team Cup being entirely free it was necessary to imagine a funding mechanism that will make NewTurf's flagship competition, even more attractive.
Funding for the prize pool comes from:
1) Deposits lost during auction with reserved price (players who use the reserve price protection do not recover their deposit if the reserve price is not reached during the sale),
2) the premiums paid when purchasing claiming horses: The premium is the difference between the actual buying price (best bid tendered in the blind mode) and the claiming price,
3) 15% of the sum obtained from nominations in public races with handicaps.
Cagnotte TrotThe "Trotting prizemoney pool" is an allocation to sponsor the 21 Big Trotting Finals which take place every 30th day of the month.
There are two sources of funding for this "kitty":
1) For each new covering, 50 cents are injected into the kitty of the following month.
2) For each public trotting race without handicap, 93% of entries are returned in the form of allowances. The remaining 7% is injected into the Trotting prizemoney pool.

This prizemoney pool is distributed as follows:
- 50% to the Prix d'Amérique
- 5% to the GNT
- 20% to the 8 Criteriums de Vitesse (Sprint)
- 16% to the Criterium des 2, 3, 4 and 5 years
- 5% the UET
- 4% to the Criterium des Jeunes.
CatégorieMeans the group of horses where the Flat horse belongs. The organization of public races of Flat is based on a system of 9 categories (in descending order of the levels, from the most powerful to the least powerful: I, II, Listed A, B, C, D, E and F). The horses go up or down in a category as a result of their performance in the public races. Winning a race of group I allow the horse to enter the Hall of Fame.
Challenge ClansThe Monthly Team Challenge is a competition between all Teams with a membership of at least 15 stable owners.
Each time a stable owner belonging to one of these teams runs a public race, he allows his Team to score points for the Monthly Team Challenge.
The number of points scored by the Team is equal to the number of horses representing other Teams that are beaten by the horse of the Team, after each pubic race's arrival.
Challenge JockeyThe Jockey Challenge is a monthly competition to rank jockeys based on their performances in Golden Races (players from U.K and Ireland can bet on those races).
Winning a race is worth 3 points and taking part in the race earns 1 point.
The ranking in this challenge is available at the following address: ranking jockeys .
Championnat du Monde

NewTurf's World Championship Regulations

Article 1 : definition

The World Championship is a monthly championship, its aim is to award the title of World Champion to stable Owners, all disciplines mixed up. The ranking depends on the number of points obtained and this is based on the following 3 disciplines:

- For Flat : Melbourne Cup
- For Hurdles : Liverpool Cup
- For Trotting: Stockholm Cup

Article 2 : Schedules for the two qualifying rounds

The first qualifying round races (two races per discipline) are held every 23rd day of the month.
The finals are held every 27th day of the month.

Each race is for a maximum of 20 runners, with only one horse allowed per owner.
Runners for a race are selected based on a first come, first served basis. Once a semi-final is full, its status is changed to preparation.

Article 3 : rules to qualified for the finals

For each discipline and each age category: the 6 first of each semi-finals are qualified.
If there is a semi-final with 10 runners and another with 4 runners, only the first 6 of the first semi-final and the other 4 runners will be qualified.

Article 4 : Calculating ranking points

A horse winning a final will score 12 points, the second horse will score 11 points, the third one 10 points etc... one owner can not accumulate points in a single final, if he is to finish first and third for example, the third horse will score 0 points, and the 4th horse will score the usual 9 points.
In Hurdles, a horse falling will score 0 points.

Article 5 : Rankings

Firstly the ranking is done per category (if there is a tie, which horse will be selected depends on the number of victories of each horse and if necessary the number of times where they came second).

The overall ranking (total of points obtained from the 3 disciplines) determines the winner: NewTurf's World Champion (honorary).

The ranking for the world championship is made public on the 27th at 11:10am i.e 2 minutes after the arrival of the last final of the Stockholm Cup.
The ranking is available HERE .

Article 6 : distances

Flat : semi-finals over 1600m and final over 2200m.
Hurdles : semi-finals over 2200m and final over 1600m.
Trotting : semi-finals over 2200m and final over 1600m.

Article 7 : registration fee and prize money

The registration fee is 50 Euro cents per horse, for all 3 disciplines.
The registration is referred to as "visible", meaning that one can see the horses of the opponents as the registrations goes along.
The sharing of the prize money is of type "flat" and its the same for both rounds (semi-finals and finals).

Article 8 : race creation and schedules

The semi-finals will be created 48 hours before they are held.
The races of the first qualifying round as well as those for the finals takes place between 8:01 to 8:08 for Flat, between 8:11 to 8:18 for Hurdles, between 8:21 to 8:28 for Trotting.

Cheltenham Royal DerbyGreat end of month racing event in the Hurdle discipline, reserved for jumpers of 2, 4 and 7 years (one race per age).

The 2 main features of this “competition” are:
1) All Cheltenham Royal Derby qualifying races and also the Cheltenham Royal Derby race itself will be run over new distances i.e. 1800, 2600 and 2800m. One will not find these distances anywhere else in the game, meaning that one will not be able to test the race for example in the tests provided on NewTurf or in clan races or even in public races as no public race is scheduled with these distances. As you may already have understood this event focuses on the intuition and skill of the jockeys. The jockeys who have participated in the qualifying races to the Cheltenham Royal Derby will be in high demand due to their experience.

2) The qualifying races are open only to horses whose ResNet40days is negative ( < 0 ). Meaning horses whose racing outcome (prizemoney won less race entry fees) is negative over the last 40 days. This condition is required only at the time of registration to qualifying races. Note that it is not an issue if the outcome is positive after a qualifying race, the horse rank is only related to the number of points scored (please see the explanation below) and may qualify for the Cheltenham Royal Derby. The final race of the 30th being a reserved race, there is no restriction on access outside from the number of points scored. In other words all horses qualified may take part in the race, and this whatever the level of their ResNet40days.
Finally, note that there is no earnings limit for access to these racing skills. The only criterion taken into account is the ResNet40jours.

The qualifying races at Cheltenham Royal Derby are:

- 04: The Dublin Derby over 1800M (2, 4 and 7 years)

- 08: The Norwich Derby over 2600M (2, 4 and 7 years)

- 12: The Southampton Derby over 2800M (2, 4 and 7 years)

- 16: The Oxford Derby over 1800M (2, 4 and 7 years)

- 20: The Limerick Derby over 2600M (2, 4 and 7 years)

- 26: The Churchill Downs Derby over 2800M (2, 4 and 7 years)

Rules to qualify for the Cheltenham Royal Derby
- Each winner of the qualifying heats is directly qualified for the Cheltenham Royal Derby.
- The Cheltenham Royal Derby being a race with 20 runners, additional participants will be selected based on the number of points scored during the qualifying rounds. The rule for calculating points is simple: a horse scores as many points as the number of horses it overtakes in one of the 6 qualifying races. In case of a tie concerning the number of points scored for the 20th and final qualifier, the horse with the most net gains will be selected.

The great day of the "Finale"
The Cheltenham Royal Derby is held every last day of the month as from 10:10 p.m. just after the l'Arc de Triomphe, over 2600m.
NewTurf's sponsorship: 30€ per race (meaning 90€ for the 3 races) The entry fee to the finale is symbolic: it is only 10 Euro cents (0.1 €).
CICThe CIC is the Team Cup.
This prestigious competition is held every month in two rounds. The first round is held on the 15th day of the month and the finals on the 25th. The CIC allows owners to make significant benefits as registering for the CIC is free.
After the finals the clans are ranked and the clan who won the Team Cup is designated.
ClanThe team("clan" in french) is an association of players who "works" together. Within a team one may exchange tips and advice, meet new people and share one's passion for horses and virtual racing.
The team members can organize their own private races: Team races.
And each team has a private forum.
Each month, the Teams compete during two prestigious competitions: the TC (Team Cup) and the Team Challenge.
ClasseThe class is linked to a race. The class of a race will determine its audience or horses, in other words depending on the class of the race only certain horses will be able to participate:
- The class "public" means a race open to every players,
- The class "reserved" means that the race is restricted to a list of horses pre-defined by the race manager,
- The class "team" means that the race is restricted to members of the team.
- The class "TC" refers to the races that are connected to the Team Cup (first round or final)
- The class "Punters Meeting" means sponsored races that are open to betting.
Code chevalThe horse's code, also known as the horse's ID is the first piece of information noted on the horse's card index (or horse card). Other than its name, this horse code is what gives each horse its own identity. It is notably used by players when they organise reserved races.
ConsanguinitéIn real life breeding, managing diversity is an important issue because its maintenance is an essential factor for the survival of the species. Therefore, in an objective of a realistic simulation game, it is encouraged to develop breeding strategies on different bloodlines.

Inbreeding is thus prohibited up to the grandparents generation.

As a result, prohibited crosses are the following:
  • FATHER - DAUGHTER

  • MOTHER - SON

  • HALF-BROTHER - HALF SISTER (the same mother, the same father)

  • Grandfather - LITTLE GIRL

  • GRAND MOTHER - LITTLE SON

  • Same paternal grandfather

  • Same maternal grandfather

  • Same paternal grandmother

  • Same maternal grandmother
Course à carrésSome racecourse managers create what they call "Genetic Squares Races".
For those races, the selection criterion is only based on the number of squares of the horse: number of squares for Speed, for Stamina and for Flexibility. Due to the fact that NewTurf do not offer this type of criterion to the racecourse managers, they have no other choice but to create reserved races or when creating public races, to indicate the number of squares required in the title of the race. Example: "V+S=5" means that only the horses whose sum of speed squares and stamina squares is less than or equal to 5, can participate in the race.
These races are not recognized as such by NewTurf because we believe that they do not really respect the spirit of "Strategy" on which NewTurf has built its reputation. Nevertheless, Newturf can not prevent players from participating in those races if they wish to. And nothing prevents a racecourse manager from organizing this type of race, whatever the criterion.
Organizing this type of race in reserve mode is tedious for the racecourse manager. That's why we tolerate these races when they are public, but there is one condition to adhere to i.e the racecourse manager must use a SECONDARY CRITERION:
- either "Net Results of the horse over 30 days < 0"
- or "Net Results of the Stable < 0 with respect to the nominations over the last 40 days"
Course à CatégorieGraded Race apply to public races in Flat Racing only.
CraquageSome jockeys push their horse beyond its limits ("over-drive"), and the risk is total exhaustion (physical breakdown). This race strategy is risky and if ever the horse is exhausted, on the screen one will notice the horse slowing down to minimal speed and finishing the race at this same speed. This is what Newturf's players call "exhaustion" or physical breakdown.
Critérium de VitesseThe "Critérium of Speed" is a Sprint (1000m) Trotting Race final that is run on each last day of the month for each category of age.

To participate, competitors must qualify through preliminary races which are as follows:

On the 3rd : Prix de Buenos aires

The winner of a qualification race is immediately qualified for the "final" (Criterium of Speed).

(*)The number of runners in the finals are limited and the decision of who will have precedence on the others is made with respect to the rules governing the events.
Golden RaceThe « Golden Races » refer to Higher-class races for bigger prizes on which Newturf players living in the UK or Ireland can place bets from various partnering sites.
Each Golden Race is sponsored with additional prizemoney. The qualification rules for these races are also more elitist (read the Order of Elimination in glossary).
Golden Races fixtures are identical each month. To learn details, click here.
Hall of FameThe Hall of Fame for the Flat discipline includes all horses of the Flat category who accomplish the feat of winning at least one Group I race in their career (to be in the Hall of Fame the horse must be part of the group I at the time of Victory in Group I).

To reward the owner whose horse reaches the Hall of Fame during the month, a Hall of Fame Bonus is paid at the end of the month.

How are Hall of Fame bonuses calculated?
- The total amount of these bonuses in Euros is equal to the number of births in the FLAT discipline recorded during the month before the previous month.
Example: the Hall of Fame prize for June corresponds to the number of births (in the Flat discipline) recorded during April.
The bonus is divided into 8 equal parts for each generation of horses (1-8 years), then divided again by the number of distances.
Note that the same horse may earn up to 4 Hall of Fame bonus in his career (a bonus for each distance).
Handicap
The concept of a 'handicap' is based on the need to be fair by 'disadvantaging' or preventing an opponent's advantage.
A handicap race is a race whereby the horses carry a weight that is fixed by the handicapper in the aim to equalise their chances of winning.

At Newturf, each flat racing or hurdling horse (no handicap races in trotting at Newturf racetrack) is given a handicap value (HV) in each of the four track distances: HV 1000M, HV 1600M, HV 2200M and HV 3000M.
These HV's correspond to the virtual weight in kilogrammes that is placed under the saddle of the horse in handicap races. The higher the HV, the more the horse is penalised during its next handicap race.

How is the HV calculated?
By default, the HV distance X of a horse that is unknown in public races with or without a handicap for a distance of X, is set at 50 kilogrammes.

When a horse participates in a handicap race or a public race without a handicap and it wins the race, the HV is updated. The calculation is different whether this is Flat racing or Hurdling. To learn more about the calculation, please click HERE.

The horses' HV is made public and can be seen in on the horse's card index (horse card).

For each handicap race organised by Newturf,a share of 85% of entry fees is distributed as race prizemoney. The remaining 15% are put into the Flat Racing prize pool if the race is a flat race or in the Hurdling prize pool if the race is a hurdle race.

Handicap Cup********
IdFBeyond the horses capacities in terms of their Speed, Endurance/Stamina, Flexibility and Obedience, each horse has more or less a good level of fitness, which also has an impact on the race results.
More precisely, the horses' fitness levels impacts their endurance level as well as the probability of a fall (in the obstacle races).
The horses' fitness levels are numbered from 0 to 10.

The shape / fitness of the horse is quantified and symbolised by the Fitness Value, which varies between 0 and 10.

The horses' fitness levels are determined as follows (3 steps):

1) The Natural Fitness Cycle
The first step is the Natural Fitness Level; a number from 1 to 6 that follows the movement of a sinusoidal curve.
Whereas the Amplitude of the sine curve is the same for all horses (variation between the minimum (1) and the maximum (6)), the Period* (the time it takes for the curve to complete the cycle from 1 to 6) of the sine curve is unique for each horse.
This means that some horses go from the lowest Natural Fitness Level (=1) to their maximum Natural Fitness Level (=6) in 2 days, whilst its takes other horses two weeks to go from one level to the next.
This 'period', which is unique to each horse, is a hereditary factor, part of the genetic history that is past down from their parents, according to secret and immutable rules.

2) The Race Bonus
The second step is the impact of taking part in public races on the horses' fitness. A bonus system linked to the number of races that have been run is calculated as follows:
+ 0.5 per race, outside team races.
Only one race is taken into account per day (therefore +0.4 maximum per day).
History that is taken into account: 14 days.
Total Bonus for the taking: + 2 points, taking into account a maximum of 4 races over 14 days.

3) The Optional Bonus
Trotting: The jockey has the option of removing the horse shoes once every ten days maximum. This results in 2 extra points during the race.
Gallop (Flat and Hurdles): The jockey has the option of putting blinkers on their horse once every ten days maximum. This results in two extra points during the race.

The horses' fitness level is given a number. This is then correlated to the notion of recuperation or tiredness that results from having run a race less than three hours before (next paragraph).
* The Period of a sine curve is the the length of time it takes for a given point on the curve to return to its initial position. E.g. The time it takes for a point to reach the height of the curve again.
InternationaleRefers to a type of race ('International Race') and a career type ('International career'). International Races are opposed to Regional Races whose access is restricted to horses that have been downgraded by their owner to "Regional" career (such a choice can not be cancelled). By default, all horses begin in International Career and do not have access to Regional Races. A share of 13% of all Regional race entry fees funds the Prize Money Pool of the concerned discipline (a Flat regional race funds the Flat Prize Money Pool, a Trotting regional race funds the Trotting Prize Money Pool, a Hurdle regional race funds the Hurdle Prize Money Pool). Meaning that we can consider that regional races are funding breeding(where the objective of breeding is to as far as possible create horses that will run among the elite in international races where the different Prize Money Pools are allocated).
Liste d'engagementThe Order of Elimination describes the process of selection from nominated horses in cash sponsored races (Golden Races) as entries often exceed the maximum.

During the nomination period, all horses are ranked in descending order according to their net gains (trotting, hurdles) or category (flat racing.) This ranking can be viewed on the Race Card.

In the event of a race being oversubscribed, horses are eliminated according to their ranking, with the horses lowest on the list being removed first. These horses are then placed on a reserve list. There is a possibility that they will become qualified to participate later on, if there is a sufficient number of cancellations of previously qualified horses.
Liverpool Cup The Liverpool Cup is a Hurdle race counting towards the World Championship of Owners: monthly inter-discipline ranking which aims to designate the stable which is the world champion(please see the Regulations of the World Championship).
MaidenMaiden is the term that refers to a horse that has yet to win a single race (Team Races excluded). Maiden is also the term that refers to a race (Maiden Race) whose entry is restricted to Maidens (Maiden horses).
Melbourne Cup The Melbourne Cup is a Flat race counting towards the NewTurf's World Championship : monthly inter-discipline ranking which aims to designate the NewTurf's World Champion(please see the Regulations of the World Championship).
MPPrivate Message. Refers to a message sent or received via NewTurf's private messaging system.
NewturfisteOwner of a stable at Newturf
NoviceDesignates a Flat Racing horse that has not raced any single "Category race" (or graded race) on one of the following distance: Sprint (1000m), "Classic" (1600m) or "Long" (2200 or 3000m). The Flat Racing horse that starts a career in public races must necessarily run its first race in a "Novice Stakes" (for each type of distance).
Novice StakesDesignates the first graded race for a Novice flat racing horse on a particular distance: Sprint (1000m), "Classic" (1600m) or "Long" (2200 or 3000m).
PlateRefers to the sharing of allowances as follows :
If 2 runners: 1st: 93%
If 3 or 4 runners: 1st : 50.7%, 2nd: 42.3%
If 5 or 6 runners: 1st : 36.8%, 2nd: 30.7% 3rd: 25.5%
If 7 or 8 runners: 1st : 29.9%, 2nd: 25%, 3rd: 20.8%, 4th: 17.3%
From 9 to 20 runners: 1st : 25.9%, 2nd: 21.6% 3rd: 18%, 4th: 15%, 5th: 12.5%
PrécoceRefers to a horse that fits into a very special breeding strategy from its owner, the horse is intended to be effective in the early years of his career.
Prix à réclamerThe claiming price is the starting level of a silent auction, with the highest bid taking the horse. The owner of horse nominated into a claiming race can put in his own bid, too, to defend his horse and try to keep it.
Prix d'AmériqueThe Prix d'Amérique is the most prestigious trotting race on NewTurf and it is for each age group i.e. from 1 to 8 years old.
It is held every last day of each month at 10:01 p.m. for the 1 year old, 10:02 p.m. for the 2 years old, 10:03 p.m. for the 3 years old etc... till 10:08 p.m. for the 8 years old.
The Prix d'Amérique is run over 2200m and it is the same for each age.
This reserved race is sponsored using 50% of the Trot prize money i.e. 6,25% of the prize money is attributed to each of the 8 races.

There are 6 qualifying rounds for the Prix d'Amérique:

- The Prix de Bretagne takes place on the 7th of each month (8:01 p.m., 8:02 p.m., 8:03 p.m., 8:04 p.m., 8:05 p.m., 8:06 p.m., 8:07 p.m. and 8:08 p.m.) over 1600m.

- The Prix du Bourbonnais takes place on the 9th of each month (8:01 p.m., 8:02 p.m., 8:03 p.m., 8:04 p.m., 8:05 p.m., 8:06 p.m., 8:07 p.m. and 8:08 p.m.) over 1600m.

- The Prix de Bourgogne takes place on the 12th of each month (8:01 p.m., 8:02 p.m., 8:03 p.m., 8:04 p.m., 8:05 p.m., 8:06 p.m., 8:07 p.m. and 8:08 p.m.) over 2200m.

- The Belgium Derby takes place on the 17th of each month (8:01 p.m., 8:02 p.m., 8:03 p.m., 8:04 p.m., 8:05 p.m., 8:06 p.m., 8:07 p.m. and 8:08 p.m.) over 2200m.

- The Continental Criterium takes place on the 21th of each month (8:01 p.m., 8:02 p.m., 8:03 p.m., 8:04 p.m., 8:05 p.m., 8:06 p.m., 8:07 p.m. and 8:08 p.m.) over 1600m.

- The Prix Ténor de Baune takes place on the 26th of each month (8:01 p.m., 8:02 p.m., 8:03 p.m., 8:04 p.m., 8:05 p.m., 8:06 p.m., 8:07 p.m. and 8:08 p.m.) over 2200m.

The winners of each of these 6 qualifying races are immediately qualified for the Prix d'Amérique.
The horses already qualified don't have to participate in the next qualifying rounds. But if they wish to they can. However if they happen to finish in the first place, the qualifying place will go to the horse finishing after them.

Competitors who compete in these 6 qualifying rounds earn points based on the outcome of the races:
- The winning horse in a qualifying round with 12 runners scores 12 points, the second horse scores 11 points, and so on.
The selection of horses to complete the number of runners needed for the finals is based on the number of points obtained.
In case of a tie(with respect to the number of points obtained) the horses which participated in a greater number of qualifying rounds will be selected.

The French Derby is held 15 days after the Prix d'Amérique. It is reserved for the finalists (horses and owners) of the Prix d'Amérique. The horses sold during the interval separating the Prix d'Amérique and the French Derby are not allowed to participate. The race will be run over 3000m.
Prix de SériePublic trotting race without handicap, not qualifying for a particular event.
Publiqueis a race open to all players.
Quota sailliesSets the number of authorized breeding for a stallion.
Obtaining breeding points is with respect to the following:
- for every birthday, as from their second year, the stallions receive 10 breeding points.
- additional breeding points can be obtained by participating in public races, 20 is the limit of additional breeding points that can be obtained in a month. An additional breeding point is earned when the horse is in the first half when crossing the finish line.
RéclamerThe idea behind Claiming Races is that the owner taking part agrees irrevocably to put his horse up for sale at a fixed, pre-determined, price (the same price for all the horses taking part in the race) during the 10 minutes following the race.
Example:
If you register your horse in a «Claiming Race for €10», this means that your horse will publicly be put on sale for €10, for 10 minutes shortly after the end of the race. You will lose ownership if another player buys at this price (unless you yourself counter bid, see the point “protect his horse” below). You will of course remain the owner if nobody bids by the end of the sale.
Réduction pondéréeFor each race run over 1600 meters, a balanced time is assigned to the horse. The balanced time of a horse is used to compare its performance over 1600 meters on different grounds (firm, good, yielding, soft, heavy).
RégionaleRefers to a type of race (regional race) and a type of horse career (regional career). The regional race will be run on regional racecourses (provinces), as opposed to an international race, open only to horses whose owner decided not to change the horse's career to regional. Please note that changing a horse's career to regional is irreversible. Horses with a regional career only have access to regional races. Meaning that they do not have access to any other sponsored or international races. Only 85% of the registration fee is used to sponsor a regional race without handicap whereas for an international race without handicap it is 93%. For the international side 100% of its discipline's prize money pool is used as sponsorship. And 8% of the regional prize money pool is allocated to the prize money pool for international races.
Retard de gainsThe value of the horse is "calculated" in relation to its earnings in races. A premium (called allocation) is allocated to the horse arriving first in a race, with a declining premium allocated to other horses depending on the order of arrival. With respect to the amount of money a horse earns his category will change to a better one. And when a trainer or a Newturf columnist, said of a horse he is "delaying earnings" one should understand that the horse should have already be in the first 3 more often and that one must expect the horse to catch up with this "delay". In the punter jargon, therefore, a horse "delaying earnings" is a horse to keep an eye on because he has big chances to finish in a good position. Reading these few words in a prognosis or in an interview should therefore alert the punter.
SaillieBreeding between a male and a female of the same category(Flat, Trot or Hurdle), to give birth to a foal. Breeding normally implies transmitting the genetic characteristics of the parents to the foal and this is done using some complex mathematical rules which are kept secret.
Sous-drivéIt is when a horse is competing in a race and that the jockey choose to play safe and use a drive/mount which is relatively low when compared to the potential and characteristics of the horse.
South American DerbyRacing event hosted by Newturf at the end of each month, which consists of 3 flat races one for horses aged 2, another for horses aged 4 and the final one for horses aged 7.

The 2 main features of this “competition” are:

1) All the South American Derby qualifying races and also the South American Derby race itself will be run over new distances i.e. 2000, 2400 and 3200m. One will not find these distances anywhere else in the game, meaning that one will not be able to test the race for example in the tests provided on NewTurf or in clan races or even in public races as no public race is scheduled with these distances. As you may already have understood this event focuses on the intuition and skill of the jockeys. The jockeys who have participated in the qualifying races to the South American Derby will be in high demand due to their experience.

2) The qualifying races are open only to horses whose ResNet40days is negative ( < 0 ). Meaning horses whose racing outcome (prizemoney won less race entry fees) is negative over the last 40 days. This condition is required only at the time of registration to qualifying races. Note that it is not an issue if the outcome is positive after a qualifying race, the horse rank is only related to the number of points scored (please see the explanation below) and may qualify for the South American Derby. The final race of the 30th being reserved, there is no restriction on access outside from the number of points scored. In other words all horses qualified may take part in the race, and this whatever the level of their ResNet40days.
Finally, note that there is no earnings limit to access these qualifying races as the only criterion is the ResNet40days.

The qualifying race for the South American Derby are:
- 07: The Argentina Derby 2000M (2, 4 and 7 years)
- 10: The Uruguay Derby 2400M (2, 4 and 7 years)
- 14: The Colombian Derby 2800M (2, 4 and 7 years)
- 19: The Brazilian Derby 2000M (2, 4 and 7 years)
- 22: Venezuela Derby 2400M (2, 4 and 7 years)
- 26: The Bolivia Derby 2800M (2, 4 and 7 years)

Rules to qualify for the South American Derby:
- Each winner of the qualifying events is directly qualified for the South American Derby.
- The South American Derby being a race with 20 runners, additional participants will be selected based on the number of points scored during the qualifying rounds.
The rule for calculating points is simple: a horse scores as many points as the number of horses it overtakes in one of the 6 qualifying races. In case of a tie concerning the number of points scored for the 20th and final qualifier, the horse with the most net gains will be selected.

The great day of the "Finale"
The South American Derby is held every last day of the month at 11:10 p.m. on a distance of 2800m and NewTurf is giving 30 € (which will be added to the winning prize) per race.
The entry fee to the finale is symbolic: it is only 10 Euro cents (0.1 €).
Stockholm Cup The Stockholm Cup is a trotting (with sulky) race counting towards the World Championship of Owners: monthly inter-discipline ranking which aims to designate the stable which is the world champion(please see the Regulations of the World Championship).
Sur-drivéIt is when a horse is competing in a race and that the jockey choose to use a drive/mount which is relatively high when compared to the potential and characteristics of the horse, thus taking the risk of a physical breakdown of the horse.
TardifRefers to a horse that fits into a very special breeding strategy from its owner, the horse is intended to be effective in the last years of his career.
Team Sprint CupThe Team Sprint Cup is a two rounds team competition that is based on 1000m distance only. Rules can be found here: speed Race
