Welcome to Newturf Virtual Horse Racing Game.
Here is some advice to help get you started with the game:
1/ Start by buying some horses in claiming races, preferably ones that finish in a good position. Claiming races are a great place for new players to start purchasing as it is very unlikely you will make a major mistake regarding the quality versus price of acquisition. In the sales ring, however, a greater experience is required in order to avoid pitfalls and to identify good value.
In a claiming race, an owner has only put a horse up for sale after giving careful consideration to its true value. Since there is nothing to gain by selling a horse for a price that is inferior to its actual market value, a horse engaged in a claiming race is not, in general, worth significantly more than the price tag (otherwise he’d get snapped up really fast!). Equally, a horse participating in a claiming race is not worth considerably less than the claiming price, as the owner has nothing to gain by putting him up against other horses that are vastly superior, guaranteeing the owner an almost certain loss of the entry fee. This is because if the claiming price is too high in comparison to the fair market price of the horse, the owner does not have a chance of winning: the claiming price of opponents' horses will be closer to their real value and so the horses will be faster.
The second advantage of buying a horse in a claiming race is that the race will provide you with a reliable reference to the horse's capabilities. This should prove useful when choosing future races for the horse.
2/ Join a Team (also called "Clan" on Newturf) as soon as possible.
It’s a great way to avoid those early pitfalls and to speed up the learning process. Loads of information and tips are exchanged within Teams - make the most of it! Additionally, Team races are similar to certain Regional Races, in that they may provide easier competition.
Participating in a Team race is a great way to familiarise yourself with riding for example, before throwing oneself into the heat of real competition (i.e public races).
3/ Turn over 80% of your horses to experienced trainers and jockeys (chosen from the appropriate directories) with whom you can negotiate prices directly. Handling the training and riding of only 20% of your horses will leave you the time a new owner needs to get used to the strategic element of the game, including race planning and nominations.
4/ When selecting races for your first horses, remember that horses bought in claiming races are probably no better than claiming grade. Running horses bought in this manner in another claiming race of similar value is the most likely way to produce equally good results.
Consider Regional Races. Regional grade horses can be purchased very cheaply, both in claiming races or the auctions and fixed price sales ring. Regional Races are available in a variety of types similar to the International circuit but the race entry fees are much lower.
Regional Racing is considered a practice level and is particularly suitable to the new player as it allows you to learn the game with a smaller financial outlay.

Newturf is not gambling. It is a real money-based skill game.
It is true that you can win money by playing this game if you are living in the European Union (if you are living outside te EU, you are not allowed to withdraw any funds), however we refuse to sell and present this game to clients as a way of making money in itself.
At this point in the games' development (which began in May 2006), Newturf is more of a pay-per-play game than a money-making one. Indeed, the level of winnings (Return Rate) that are distributed to players remains relatively small if you compare to the poker or the backgammon industry. In terms of probabilities, there is only a small chance of winning. Most stables on Newturf are therefore structurally a deficit. A player can therefore be proud of their performance if they manage to break even.
Newturf should not, in any way, be considered as an investment. Before anything else, Newturf is for leisure and entertainment, it is a game. If you are looking for a way to earn money at Newturf, you have got the wrong address. If you do not get enough pleasure out of the game for the money that you put in each month, it is probably best to leave the game.
Palamax Betting and Gaming Ltd's long-term goal is to develop this virtual world into a game with much more chances of winning (especially in the flat race), into a game where the proportion of winners and the profit levels are much greater than what they are today. However, this will take time, probably several years. The complexity of the game, the marginal impact of 'luck' in our algorithms and the fact that the number of stables that participate every month remains under one thousand, does not allow us, at this present time to increase the winnings that are distributed to players.
|
This is a “Skill Game”. At Newturf, luck only plays a small part. The game is based on algorithms, mathematical equations and fixed probability rules.
|
The principles of the game are described in the Player's Guide. It can be read here.
Newturf is a persistent virtual world whose goal, as simulation game, is to gradually move towards the reality of horse racing, however taking into account that the complexity of reality requires simplification and standardization in order to make the game accessible and understandable.
Newturf software, algorithms and rules are evolving constantly, to challenge reality and meet customer satisfaction. Participation in the competition implies the tacit and unconditional acceptance of all changes agreed and implemented by Palamax B&G, Newturf's game publisher. The views expressed by the community are taken into account as much as possible, in the limis of technical constraints and profitability goals of the game. Decisions taken by Palamax B&G can never be challenged, even if sometimes they go against the expression of a majority of players (ideas expressed by forum or survey).

Moneybookers is the solution recommended by Newturf to credit your account and withdraw your winnings.
How does that work under Newturf?
- 1 - A new Newturf customer must state his Moneybookers e-mail by clicking the "Account" menu and then selecting "Personal Details", when crediting his account for the first time.
li>
- 2 - You can not credit your account via the Moneybookers site. You need to use the NewTurf's page.
li>
- 3 - When you credit your Moneybookers account via credit card, check the box indicating that this money is intended for gambling sites! Otherwise your deposit will be rejected!
li>
- 4 - If you credit your Moneybookers account via bank transfer, there will be no worries when you credit your Newturf account via Moneybookers. In this case there is no check box. li> ul>

| Problem when crediting using a credit card |
On Newturf, horses age faster than real horses: they age one year on the first day of each month. When they are born, horses are one year old and remain so up until the last day of the month in which they were born.
Horses can participate in races immediately. A horse's racing career officially ends on the first day of his ninth year, with only one exception: if the owner has already registered his 8 year old horse for a race that will take place the following month. The stallion will then stay in the stable one additional year for reproduction purpose and will disappear (retirement) when he is ten years old while a mare will stay three additional years in the stable and will disappear when she is 12 years old.
|
A virtual horse on Newturf can run until 8 years old (Newturf age), which is equivalent to 8 months in real time. His career is officially over from the first day of his nineth year and he disapears from the stable one month later, on the first day of his tenth year.
|
A stallion can be used for mating until the end of the end.
|
This symbol means that the horse's genetic squares can be seen by all players. Sometimes, some owners wish to disclose their horse's genetic potential to other players without setting the horse for sale (genetic squares for a horse for sale are always public).
To do so, click on the link "Display horse characteristics details" in the Horse Card.
|
This symbol means that the horse is for sale. To discover at which price, open the horse card by clicking on the horse 's name.
|
A stable owner on Newturf earns money from:
- 1 - race winnings
- 2 - Hall of Fame bonuses (flat racing)
- 3 - the sale of horses
- 4 - stud fees owing to its best stallions
|
There are two ways to enlist a horse for a race (process is called nomination):
- 1 – From you horse list, Category STABLE:
> Last column : "next race", click on the pictogram "+".
>> A new window opens, that tells you which races your horse is eligible for (qualified).
- 2 - Category "RACE" >> "Races open to registration"
>> last column "register" : click on the pictogram represented by "+".
>>> This shows you all of the horse in your stable that meet the qualification criteria of the selected race.
|
| Immediately right after the race |
| Winnings are paid to the player who owns the horse at the moment it is entered in the race.
In a similar way, winnings are paid to the jockey enrolled to drive the horse and to the trainer who looks after the horse at the moment this one is entered in the race.
|
When a horse is for sale, its squares can be seen by all the players.
If the horse is no longer for sale, the other players can not see its squares. |
To watch your horse racing: :
Go to the "Stable Owner" page. In the "Next Race" column (6th column), select the race your horse is entered in.
A Pop-up window appears.
Select the TV sign to watch the race.
If the race is finished already, in the "Stable Owner" page select the race from the "Last race" column (5th column). A Pop-up window appears. Click on the TV sign to watch the race.
|
Newturf has developped a tool that allows you to watch your horse run in the same conditions of live, that means without knowing the outcome in advance:
General left side menu > My Profile & My Options.
>> Check the two following box:
Hide account balance in the left side menu
Hide my results on the "My Performance" page
By logging on the site, click first on the new link "My performance", placed for this purpose (link in the shortcuts, under the plan, homepage).
Then you have to click on the link visualization of the race (last column) that appears directly to this page if this option is selected. |
In the left hand side menu select "Stable Owner", then in the top bar menu select" My contract with Trainers/Jockeys to display the list of your horses.
Select "Choose" in the New trainer column to change trainer or in the New jockey column to change the jockey. Enter the username of your new choice. |
Yes it is the player registered as jockey when the horse enters the race who gets the fee, even if he has not validated the racing tactic.
If he is missing often it is up to you, the owner, to decide to continue with him or to hire an other jockey!
|
Yes, that is possible. In order to do so:
Left side menu, "Positions"
"Stable Owner"
"My contracts with Trainers / Jockeys"
Filter: Age = Pending foals
New trainer
Enter the username of the Trainer to whom you wish to entrust your horse as soon as it is born.
|
| It appears in the Race creation page, but only after the race has been validated (registration limit over). |
Yes it is possible.
To do so, select Stable Owner button (left hand side menu), then select Sell a horse (top page menu), and click on the last column title Retirement.
Then you can decide not to keep this horse any longer (early retirement).
|
Each stallion receives 10 breeding points (breeding points = the right to breed with a mare) the first day of each month.
It is possible to earn an extra 20 breeding points each month.
As long as the 30 breeding points obtained throughout the month have not been touched, then the stallion earns 1 breeding point each time that he finishes among the first half of the horses in a public race. (E.g. third out of 6/7 participants, 4th out of 8/9 participants, 5 out of 10/11 participants etc...). |
The breeder has scheduled the covering for later.
You will receive the funds 28 days before the foal's birth, i.e. on the day of the visit of the veterinarian.
.
Providing the breeder has the funds on his account on that day.
|
This is because this race is one of the Flat Racing Daily Calendar and it was filled before the end of registration. Each time this type of race is filled, its statut changed into "preparation mode" or "departure pending": you cannot cancel your nomination anymore. Instantaneously, a new race with the same parameters is created.
|
This is normal, it is not possible to change the name of a horse during his career.
Its the first owner of the horse that choose a name for the horse in accordance with the Naming Charter of Horses a>.
|
There are two ways to register for a breeding
The first one is through your mares list:
Menu: click on "Breeding"
>> Heading "My BREEDING": click on the link "My stud mares".
A list of your mares of reproductive age will be showed.
Click the small icon in the last column entitled "Find a stallion".
A new window (pop-up) opens with a list of your stallions that may breed with this mare (the stallion must be old enough to reproduce, it should not be a gelding, and must have breeding points available).
You can also breed your mare with a stallion from another stable. To do so, input the name of the horse, or find it by inputting the name of its owner in the gray area.
To select a breeding with the chosen stallion, click on the icon (found on the same row as the stallion) in the last column. A new window will open with the possible dates of birth (please note that a foal may only be born on the first day of the month).
The second one is through the stallion directory:
Menu: click on "Breeding"
>> Heading "TOOLS" click on "Stallions Directory".
This will show the list of stallions to which owners has assigned a breeding price.
Once your choice made, click on the icon of the last column.
This will open a new window (pop-up) showing a list of your mares of reproductive age.
Once your choice made, click on the icon of the last column entitled "Ask mating".
This opens a last window in which you will be able to register a breeding for your mare with the chosen stallion. You must select the desired date of birth (from a list of possible dates) and enter the breeding price you offer to the owner of the stallion (this price can not be less than the standard price of a breeding, i.e €6 for Flat , €4 for trotting and €3 for Hurdles). Once the request confirmed, the price of the breeding will be charged immediately, you'll just have to wait for the granting or denial of the owner of the stallion (he may accept or decline your offer). If accepted, the birth of the foal is automatically scheduled, your mare goes into status "pregnant" and this foal to come appears in your list "Breeding">> "MY BREEDING">> "My foals to be born". |
No it is not possible because the horses are not of the same racing type.
|
When a stallion is 3 years old, he can start receiving breeding propositions, on the condition that his breeding quota is positive.
|
| A mare can be inseminated when she is three years old. |
No it is too late as the pregnancy lasts 28 days.
The latest date for a foal birth is the day the mare is retiring (and is removed from the game).
|
| It will be born in your stable, just like normal. Don't worry about it. |
This error alarm can occur in two cases :
- the mare will be retired (permanent retirement) on the scheduled date for the birth. If you can not schedule the birth at an earlier date (because of the 28-day gestation period) then the covering is not possible.
- the stallion owner has not accepted your offer for the covering in due time. The scheduled date for the birth is in less than 28 days. There is no sufficient time for the veterinary to visit the mare for the start of the gestation period (28 days are required before the birth).
|
No, the mare can have one foal only.
The Sir of the foal will be the stallion of the owner to who you sent the covering request first (regardless of who accepted to sell the covering first).
|
Yes, it's possible at any moment as long as the breeding proposition hasn't been accepted by the stallion's owner.
In order to do this:
Breeder > My offers > Click on the the icon in the last column of the table (the one marked "Delete") |
There are two ways to find a record of this covering and the epxtec Birth date :
Solution 1 :
Go to the Breeder page and select My foals button.
Then in the Age selection menu, select Not born yet
Solution 2 :
Go to the Breeder page and select My mares. Click the name of your mare and select Genealogy button. You get the list of her foals, including the unborn ones. For example if you have already plan two births for this mare, one on the 1st of March and one on the 1st of April, both unborn foals will be listed.
|
Yes, at Newturf a mare in foal races normally; Her racing capabilities and performances are not altered.
|
The breeder earns 7% of all race winnings (Hall of Fame bonus included) generated by the horse during full racing career.
|
The new owner of the mare will also be the owner of the foal.
|
You do not have to worry about it, the foal will be born in your stable quite normally.
|
Absolutely no, determining the sex of the horse is 100% random. Meaning there is a 50% chance of having either a male or a female.
|
All the players have access to the same initial information through the help (How to Play) available in the Tool menu. There is no other help section on Newturf.com.
From there, every one can progress from his own analysis, his own tests, etc .
You can gather information on the forums which are meant to facilitate exchanges and help between the players.
You can also join a Team. It is usually an efficient way to learn quickly the tips and tricks of the game.
|
It is the stable owner who initiates the request for hiring a trainer.
Once a stable owner selects you to train one of his/her horses, you will be able to find his/her request by clicking on:
Menu item: "Training" >> Heading: "MANAGEMENT" >> Link: "Manage contracts"
From there you can either accept or reject his/her offer. If you are not satisfied with the offer, please refuse it and then send a private message to the owner in order to negotiate a better percentage.
To make yourself visible as a trainer to stable owners we invite you to go to the following page:
Menu item: "Training" >> Heading: "MANAGEMENT" >> Link: "Manage advertising"
and fill in the required information.
You can also post messages on the forums stating how successful you are in order to attract potential customers. If on the forums you noticed a player looking for a trainer, you can send a private message to the latter to propose your service. |
Yes it is possible.
While in the training program, you can select the option to repeat the training daily. The same program will be repeated automatically every day at random hours.
|
A horse who is trained regularly progresses globally with the exception of obedience that evolves only when the horse takes part to races.
You are referring to a game of chance most probably because of a lack of obedience. When obedience is poor, overall performances are not stable. Thus even after a 6-day training program where he has improved speed, stamina and flexibility, you may not see the results simply because he does not feel much like racing. It can be that the following day you get the opposite result.
So train the horse and enter him to races to better control what you perceive as chance (but actually it is not chance).
|
It means that the horse is at his maximum for the given characteristic.
This limit is part of his genetic code. It is not possible to get an extra square, no matter how fast or often the horse gets the squares.
|
Yes it is possible except in the case of a black square (please refer to the following question).
When the training mark is red (regression) in one of the characteristics, the horse can loose a square.
Important : Even with a good training a horse can still loose a square.
A training may translate in a regression in one of the characteristics : If the speed increases by 30 and the Stamina reduces by 10, training results are the same than when both the speed and the stamina raise by 10. The training results are the addition of the variations for each of the characteristics.
|
Once a horse gets a black square for a given characteristic, it can not regress. Therefore it can not loose this black square.
|
No there is no fundamental difference between manual training and automatic training: the results are similar for a given set of parameters.
Nevertheless, when using the manual training, you can fine-tune the parameters daily and, over a period of few days, you can set up a training program that is more precise than the automatic one.
|
Newturf automatic training program works the three performances in a fair and consistent way, and does not take into account black squares that may be granted.
|
In the Trainer Section, you have at your disposal a link entitled "Trainer Directory. This link opens the page that allows you to save the message to appear in the directory. You can edit this message at any time.
|
When you own a virtual horse on Newturf, you are by default designated as the jockey. To appoint a jockey, you can do it directly from the HORSE CARD. Below the name of the jockey, you have a link “change”.
You can also appoint a jockey directly from the Jockey Directory: select the horses of your stable that you wish to entrust to a selected Jockey. You then have to wait for the approval of the jockey. The percentage revenue share (jockey are only paid on horse winnings) is negotiated directly between the owner and the jockey.
|
If the jockey is already appointed in the same race, the software prevents you from nominating the horse in the race.
|
Have you accepted the Jockey contracts?
Please select Jockey (on the left), then select My racing contracts with owners (top right). If there are outstanding contracts, either click the ball to confirm the contract or click the dustbin to reject it.
Once the contracts have been accepted select the Jockey button (menu on the left hand side) to get the list of the horses you will drive.
Then simply select the race then Prepare for the race (blue font).
Enter your strategy and click OK to register it.
|
It is necessary to correlate the « strength » of appeal / request with the horse’s “endurance”: it’s its capacity to tolerate “whippings” and its efforts to sustain a speed that is faster than its basic speed.
|
Yes obedience impacts the result of a test race, in the same way it impacts the result of a race against other runners.
No, obedience is not improving with test races but it is improving gradually by running races against other horses.
|
No, this does not have any impact. Our mathematical equations allow for the bend. The aim is to avoid putting those that registered last for a race at a disadvantage, given that the lanes are numbered from the inside lane outwards (the inside lane = lane 1). The earlier you register, the more likely you will be near to the inside lane.
|
In the Jockey category, you have at your disposal a link entitled "Jockey Directory. This link opens the page that allows you to save the message to appear in the directory. You can edit this message at any time.
|
For the Trotting and Hurdling Golden Races, the post position is determined by the Total Net Gains criteria.
For the Flat Racing Golden Races, the post position is determined by the Grade.
In both cases the horses are lined up in decreasing order from the rail to the outside lane.
Hence, the higher your horse is ranked or the more that your horse has won, the closer it will be positioned to the rail in the Golden Races.
For all the other races, the horses are lined up from the rail according to the time that they were enrolled for the race. Hence, the horses are lined up in from the rail to the outside lane in accordance with the time that they were registered.
|
No, it is an illusion. Being next to the rail in itself does not give them an advantage over horses in the outer lanes. Indeed, in a Sprint, a horse will run the same race whether they are in lane 1 or lane 10. The lanes are staggered to compensate for the bends.
|
Only horses whose owner has decided to change their career to regional can access regional races.
|
- This is the start of a new career for your horse: its gross and net earnings are set to 0, all HV (Handicap Value) are re-initialized to 50kg.
- The horse will now only have access to Regional Races and private Team races. For regional races only 80% of the registration fees is used to sponsor (sum of money shared after the race) the race.
- If your horse is a male, he is castrated and becomes Gelding (its obediance improves slightly too). As a result, he can no longer reproduce.
|
Only the owner of the horse can take this decision.
|
No, this is an irreversible decision. If the career of a horse is changed to regional there is no way to revert back to an international one, whatever may be the reasons.
|
Yes, there is only one restriction: if the horse has more than €3 of gross earnings, it can not be downgraded to a regional career. This sum is identical for all 3 racing disciplines.
|
Only Team administrators can create a regional race.
|
A regional race is public, same as international races. All stables of the game can participate and register a horse if and only if the horse has a regional career.
|
- Races without handicap based on the net earnings criterion.
- handicap races
- claiming races
For horses of the Flat discipline, the concept of Categories does not exist. Meaning that the Categories per distance for a horse of the Flat discipline will not be on the horse's card index.
|
The racecourse manager of a Regional Race does not earn anything as he acts on behalf of his Team. When he creates a Regional Race, the Team Account is debited with the creation cost (49% of the registration fees). The Team account is credited with a 5% success fee if there is at least 4 runners. The Team Account is also reimbursed for the creation cost when this number is reached. If the race is canceled or has only 2 or 3 runners, the creation cost (cost of creating the race) is not reimbursed.
|
7% goes to the racecourse manager (and soon with the Team account, this will go to the Team organizing the race).
The remaining that is 13% goes in the Prize Money Pool of the concerned discipline (a Flat regional race funds the Flat Prize Money Pool, a Trotting regional race funds the Trotting Prize Money Pool, a Hurdle regional race funds the Hurdle Prize Money Pool). Meaning that we can consider that regional races are funding breeding(where the objective of breeding is to as far as possible create horses that will run among the elite in international races where the different Prize Money Pools are allocated).
|
| The Grading System in Flat Racing |
These monthly bonus cash prizes are intended to reward Stable Owners of horses reaching Category I for the first time.
Each horse generation has its own independent kitty calculated each month on the 7% collected by Newturf on category races during the previous month. The prizes are paid on the first day of each month in proportion to the number of owners. |
Left side menu
Tables
Flat Racing : Hall of Fame
Monthly Prize Pools |
| To receive a portion of the monthly prize pool, it is necessary to reach the Class I. In other words, your horse in Class A needs to climb 3 additional categories. Listed, II and then I. |
Only the breeder receives a share from the bonus Hall of Fame earnt by the stable owner: they receive 7% of the owner's profits. I.e. they receive the same share on this bonus as traditional race winnings.
|
| Only the owner upon the transition into Class I is eligible to the monthly bonus cash prize. |
- An owner who makes two horses of different of reach the category I during the same month will get a portion of each monthly bonus cash prize related to each age.
- If the same owner has two horses of the same age who reach the Category I in the same month for the same generation of horses, the owner touches proportionately twice as much as an owner who has reached with a group I only one horse. In summary, the owners receive in proportion to the number of horses that belongs to them and reaching the Group I, for each horse generation. |
If your horse wins the race category just over his own, he climbs up a class over his category. He has therefore risen from Category A to Category Listed.
Another example is based on the categories below:
Your horse is F, he ran in E, he won the race E, a result, the horse rises to E (not D). |
| Category races are exclusively managed by Newturf in flat racing. The whole 7% collected entry fees which do not go back into prizemoney are pooled into the monthly bonus cash prize which rewards all owners with horse that reach Category I for the first time (Hall of Fame). |
| A special feature for the discipline hurdles: Falls |
Although luck has its part to play, this remains a relatively small factor compared with other factors, such as; the horse's ability to jump a hurdle, or the likeliness that it will fall. In order of importance these factors include:
- Flexibility: the more supple the horse, the more likely it is that it will jump the hurdles correctly.
- Strength and stamina: the harder the horse works, the more likely it will fall. Therefore, a horse is more likely to fall towards the end of a race.
- Obedience: a less obedient horse is more likely to fall during a race.
- Fitness at the time of the race: if a horse is fit, its weaknesses with regards to flexibility, endurance and obedience become less important. Hence, the fitter the horse, the less likely it will fall.
|
If less horses cross the finish line than the allocated number of winning places, the horses that cross the line share the remaining winnings. They receive a percentage of the remaining winnings in accordance with their finishing position.
For example:
In a race with 7 entries and prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place:
Winning horse: 60% of registration fees
Second place: 30%
Third place: 10%
If only 2 of the 7 horses cross the finish line, the first two horses win their respective amounts plus the same percentage of the third place.
Hence, the first horse wins 2/3 of the third place's winnings (60% of 90%) and the horse that came in second wins 1/3 of the third place's winnings (30% of 90%).
|
When a horse has fallen in race, a "F" is displayed on the the penultimate column. In such a case, the race time is set at 0 in the last column.
|
Yes, the race will be shown in the performance statistics in public races, whether the horse falls or not.
|
Yes, if you beat 10 horses in a race in which two fell and these 10 horses belong to no player in your Team, you earn 10 points for your Team's account.
|
No, a horse cannot fall during a test race. It can only happen at the racetrack.
|
The Claiming Race is based on the principle that the registered owner irrevocably consents to a predetermined sale price for his horse: ie the asking price. This claiming price is the same for all horses involved in the race. Obviously, only the first 2 or 3 finishers or so risk being claimed.
The sale takes place by way of secret bidding, for a 10 minute period, just after the end of the race.
Example:
If you register your horses in a «Claiming Race for €5 », this means that your horse will publicly be put on sale for €5, for 10 minutes shortly after the end of the race. You will lose ownership if another player buys at this price (unless you yourself counter bid, see the point “protect his horse” below). You will of course remain the owner if nobody bids by the end of the sale.
Sales condition for a claiming race: consists of secret bidding, with the price corresponding to the asking price. The highest bidder becomes the new owner.
The horse’s owner can « protect his horse » : he places the highest bid for his horse. He is then only charged for the difference between the claiming price and the price he bid.
In the event of a sale, the owner receives 100% of the asking price and gives a 10% commission to Newturf (as in classic horse sales).
The difference between the final claimed price and the initial claiming/asking price is donated to the pot for the Royal Cup.
The selling sessions for claiming races are made public and are accessible to all players, without exception. It is not necessary to be involved in the race in order to claim a horse.
|
The principle of a claiming race is not easy to grasp at first but it is without a doubt the most strategic type of nomination:
On one hand, you cannot take the risk of entering a horse that is too good (compared to the price offered!). On the other hand, you also cannot enter a horse that is no good (not good enough for the price offered!). The choice therefore comes down to getting the balance between the risk of selling your horse and your chances of winning. This decision is also based on your knowledge of horse market prices.
In taking an interest in this type of race, you can also make a good profit! You cannot really make any terrible misjudgements because in theory, the owner that put the horse in for the race does not want to loose their registration fees.
For players with lower incomes, by running the games on this basis (i.e. forgetting expensive breeding), it provides excellent entertainment at a small cost.
In buying a horse in a claiming race, you also have an indicator for the next race. Perhaps, you could re-register it for a claiming race for a small profit.
The race is fully booked? Or you cannot find any relevant race with the right claiming price for your horse? So what! Why not create your own and register your horse? Okay, you risk loosing your deposit from creating the race if it does not run, but not only will you get this back if the race reaches level 3 (jump race) or four participants (harness and flat race) but you will also get a 7% commission from the registration fees! If you think this through well and are ready to 'loose' (or rather 'sell') your horse, there is always a solution – the claiming race is undeniably one of the best solutions.
Finally, if you do not win in a claiming race, everything is not lost as your horses HV goes down! Which increases its chances in another type of race: the handicap races!
|
To claim a horse, a player has 10 minutes to place his bid (whose minimum amount is the claiming price). During this 10 minutes period that occur just after the race, only the number of bids is public, the bidded price are kept confidential.
After the submission period of 10 minutes, only the best bid is chosen.
The new and former owner is notified by private mailbox when the transaction takes place. Other candidates who submitted a bid not selected, are notified by for the outcome of their bid.
|
No, any player can claim a horse, whether he was participating into the race or not.
|
The owner of the sold horse is credited of the claiming price.
The possible price difference between the winning bid price and the claiming price funds the Discipline Prize Pool to which it is related.
|
When there is more than one highest offer, it is the first offer made which is accepted.
|
Of course! We will refund the amount debited from your account when you placed your bid if you are not the final buyer.
|
Yes, that is possible: the owner can put in his own bid too to defend his horse and try to keep it. If he places the best bid and wins the silent auction, the owner is debited with the difference between his bid and the claiming price. This difference goes into the Club Cup kitty.
. |
From the claiming horse list page, click the link "Buy" in the penultimate column named "Claiming". A pop-up window then appears, into which you simply submit your price and confirm your bid.
At the end of the tendering period which lasts 10 minutes from the finish of the race, you receive a message that tells you the result, whether you're the new owner or if you lost the auction.
|
You can only place one offer on the same horse during the sales period. Once transmitted, you cannot not modify your bid. You can bid for several horses.
|
The genetic information of horses running in a claiming race is only made public if requested by the owner. Unlike other horse auctions where it is compulsory to give this information, no genetic information will be given prior to the race or whilst the bids are being placed (which lasts ten minutes just after the race's arrival).
This confidentiality over the horse's genetics in claiming races requires the owner to be even more strategic when selecting which horses they want to put in for the race.
It is therefore down to the potential buyer to consider other factors when deciding whether it is worth purchasing the horse or not.
Other factors may include: the horse's ancestors, current race time, the quality of the trainer and the jockey, the honours' list, the race history etc.
|
Of course! A claiming race is never a Team Race. ALL races are taken into account in the Monthly Team Challenge, except Team Races!
|
Golden Races is one of the highlights of the Newturf games. In these races, the biggest racing stables and therefore the best horses race against one another.
Backed by Newturf or other sponsors, these races are also interesting financially. Having competitive horses for the Golden Races automatically allows them to make a profit from their stables.
Finally, these Golden races are an integral part of the races that you can bet on with Newturf. You can place a bet directly with Newturf or via their partner websites. Only residents from the UK and Ireland have access to this betting section.
|
Nomination to Punters Meeting races starts at 8:30 pm CET (Central European Time) 2 days before the Meeting. Registration closes at 5:00 pm CET on the eve of the Meeting. Additional specificity to these Punters Meeting races: the drive strategy must be entered before this registration close, so before 5:00 pm CET on the eve of the Meeting.
You can locate these "Punters Meeting" under the "Stable Owner" section of the website: click the link "Race Search" and then select "Punters Meeting" from the field "Class" in the grey area named "filter".
|
The Order of Elimination describes the process of selection from nominated horses in cash sponsored races (Golden Races) as entries often exceed the maximum.
During the nomination period, all horses are ranked in descending order according to their net gains (trotting, hurdles) or category (flat racing.) This ranking can be viewed on the Race Card.
In the event of a race being oversubscribed, horses are eliminated according to their ranking, with the horses lowest on the list being removed first. These horses are then placed on a reserve list. There is a possibility that they will become qualified to participate later on, if there is a sufficient number of cancellations of previously qualified horses.
|
You cannot ride (flat racing and hurdling) or drive (trotting) a horse that is no yours if you have yourself one of your horse nominated into the same race.

Stable Owner > Link "Management Sales / Auctions": click on Auction.
You just create your lot by selecting horses among your stable and put it up for auction.
We advise sellers to create lots which are consistent (with regards to discipline and age). For example, you may create a lot of: 8 year old flat race horses, 2 year old trotting race horses, 3 year old jump race horses etc. This makes it easier to identify the lots in the horse auction. This is also useful for potential buyers as they can search by lot type.
|
Yes, you can create lots with more than one horse.
|
No, you can sell by auction only one lot at once.
|
The initial period is 24 hours, with automatic extension of an additional hour for each new bid which occurs in the last hour, and so on, until no one else bid (then the sale is confirmed).
|
An auction starts immediately when the seller validates the parameters of its sale. The seller cannot delay the sale.
|
The auction’s opening price cannot be set by the seller. The price is set by Newturf. It is €0.1 whatever the auction.
However, the seller sets the minimum bid.
Two examples:
If the seller sets the minimum bid for the lot at €2; the first bid is set at €0.10, then the second at €2.10, the third at €4.10 etc.
If the seller sets the minimum bid for the lot at €0.50; the first bid is set at €0.10, then the second at €0.60 and the third at €1.10.
|
| A reserve price is the lowest price at which you are willing to sell your horse(s). If you don’t want to sell it/them below a certain price, you can a set a reserve price. The amount of your reserve price is not disclosed to potential buyers and bidders. |
If you find a buyer for your horses and that the sales occur, you get back your deposit (3% of the reserve price).
However, if on the contrary, the reserve price is not attained and the sales do not occur, you lose your deposit and it adds up automatically to the Prizemoney Pool (deposits hence redistributed to players through the Sponsored prize). |
If the reserve price was a free service, the owners would be able to inundate the bidding hall with crazy offers without taking any risk. This would result in an increase in the number of offers and therefore an overload in the bidding halls. The bidding halls would quickly become of no interest for the buyers (what is the point of a buyer placing offers if the seller sets a completely utopian reserve price?), and gradually nothing more would sell.
In order for the bidding system to function, there must be a certain fluidity in sales, the buyers should be able to find a limited supply, well adapted in terms of price, where there is the necessity of taking a “financial risk”, then the seller can resort to the protection of the reserve price.
|
When an owner bids on a lot, the bid amount is immediately debited from his account. If somebody else places a better bid, the previously debited bid amount is then credited on the account.
|
The "auto-bid" function enables you to leave a maximum bid. (The maximum amount you are willing to pay to win the lot).
Your maximum bid will be taken into account at the live event, and will be carried over along with the current highest bid. When a new bidder outbids your bet but bets under your maximum bid, the "auto-bid" function increases your bid automatically putting you back at the top of the list. The "auto-bid" function will never exceed your registered maximum bid amount. If the live bidding does not exceed your maximum bid, you will win the lot. |
| In the bidding hall, you can see whether or not the bid is subject to a reserve price (first board at the top left hand side in the pop up window titled “bidding hall”). |
| Yes, we take a 10% commission on the sale price, in the same way that we take a commission when selling a horse at a fixed price. |
If the reserve price is not reached, the sale does not occur.
|
All players must take the initiative to organise a public race, i.e. a race that is open to all Newturf players.
When organising a public race, the racecourse Manager will be debited 48% of the inscription fee.
If the race reaches 5 or more participants, then the racecourse Manager is reimbursed the set-up cost and earns a commission that is equal to 7% of the total amount of the inscription fees.
As with every public race, 93% of the takings are redistributed among the winning horse owners.
If the race doesn't take place, or includes only 2, 3 or 4 participants, then the racecourse Manager does not get a refund on the set-up cost, and receives no commission.
|
A race can not be cancelled if there is at least one owner registered to it.
|
No they will be open for 7-year old horses only, but 8-year old horses already registered will remain in the registered list.
|
| You cannot set the race time later than in the next 48 hours. |
At the creation of a public race, the track manager is debited of a desposit equal to 49% of the race entry fee set by track manager.
This deposit is not refunded in the following cases:
- Hurdle: less than 3 runners.
- Trotting or Flat racing: less than 4 runners
Above these numbers of runners, not only the racetrack manager will be reimbursed the deposit, but he won a success fee equal to 7% of nomination fees (number of runners time race entry fee)! |
On Newturf experience shows that this is not the supply, which stimulates demand, in terms of filling races.
Beyond a certain level, these races compete among themselves to undermine and ultimately to fill each of them.
Experience also shows that the players in general, prefer to run less often in races with 8 to 12 runners, than running most often in races with 2 to 4 runners.
In conclusion, if there were no risk to the creation of public race, there would undoubtedly be too many courses offered, and this would produce a devastating effect on the degree of filling races.
Furthermore, we believe that from the moment the manager has a hope of gain related to its initiative (Committee of success if its course met three runners in the race barrier or four runners in the race for Trot or Flat) it is normal that there is a risk involved. The two go hand in hand. |
Because the schedule of trot public races is managed by Newturf. Due to that, 7% of the trot registration fees goes in the trot pot as NewTurf takes no "Manager" commission (the organizer of the race takes a commission of 7%).
But Newturf let managers create races over distances of 2200m and 3000m because there is less demand for those races, NewTurf does not want to unnecessarily change the schedule for those distances, because players will be more willing to participate in those races if they are the ones organizing them.

No, it's not a 4th discipline. This is a second type of race for all trot horses.
In other words a trotter can take part in a harness race (where horses trot or pace while pulling a driver in a small, light cart known as a sulky) or the horse can take part in a mounted trot(where the jockey rides the horse and where there is no sulky).
|
The objective of the mounted trot over the period of November / December 2010, is to be a laboratory (test) for us to propose improvements in riding, without affecting the rest of the game (i.e Flat, Hurdle, Trotting):
- Work on the appeal(request made by the jockey to the horse to make it go faster), possible work on the racetrack sections (200m or 100m for the last 300 meters?), taking bends into account and introduction of new tricks.
Participating in these mounted trot races is important because:
1) This allows you to have an influence on the evolution of the game.
2) You prepare yourself for possible future developments in other disciplines.
The two biggest flaws in the mount / drive in the game, more than 4 years after its launch, are:
- In a general manner, the "appeal" do not consume enough of R, especially when using the whip. The possibility of using the whip so much over a distance of 1000m and 1600m is not realistic, and this reinforces the monotony of the game.
- Resistant(with more stamina) horses should be a little more efficient than fast horses over long distances. The re-evaluation of R, on which a lot of work has been done in 2008, can unfortunately be considered a failure. Indeed, two years after the redesign, a widely accepted fact is that currently the horses that are fast are better on long distances and this is kind of a paradox!
Consuming more R, especially when using the whip would bring the owners of fast horses to less whip their horses. Logically, they would lose some of their advantage over slower more resistant horses, this would bring a better equilibrium between the fast and the resistant horses, thereby bringing a balance in winning chances.
That is exactly what we want to "fix" via the mounted trot, working hand in hand with willing players... Finding the right mix is tedious and it is unrealistic to use the current disciplines as "test subjects".
It will be a good thing for NewTurf players that we enhance the realism of the game. An argument is that the game must not evolve because players based their breeding strategies with respect to what the game is now, is refutable. Because the game will always continue to evolve in order to bring it closer to reality.
Since 4 years, we are explaining that anticipating the games' evolution with respect to breeding strategies, is also a part of the game. Finally, as we always publicly say (again this year while working on automatic overtaking designed to bring an advantage to "waiting" strategies) we wanted to balance the V and R on the game. As long as this is not the case and as long as this is not felt by a majority of players, we will continue our job on trying to balance the V and the R.
|
No, at this level there is no genetic predisposition for harness racing or mounted racing. The goal is to use exactly the same genetic code, so that players can join us in our work on improving riding and "appeal"(request made by the jockey to the horse to make it go faster). It is imperative that players can compare harness racing and mounted racing, and to attain this it is essential that only the mounted racing varies.
|
We think that making players pay for those races will distort the test results.
For technical reasons, we can not help but make participation in these races impact the SI (Shape Index), like in any other public race.
Having a fee means having more players. The level of "appeal" (request made by the jockey to the horse to make it go faster especially when using the whip) is not the same in those races (but of course the same rule applies to everyone), for sure those races are a little bit more risky.
By participating in these races, one can gain experience on the type of riding that will be eventually applied(when everything will be stable) on existing disciplines: Flat, Hurdle and Harness racing.
The price is deliberately reduced to 10 cents, so that players do not hesitate too much to propose those races.
|
The rules for mounted trot races, because they are "test subjects", are:
No breeding points (represents the number of times a stallion may reproduce)
No points accumulated in Team Challenge
No modification of HV (handicap value)
In contrast: There is an impact on the SI(Shape Index), even though we would prefer not to modify the SI, but we have to because there are high risks of generating bugs. In other words participating in a mounted trot race will affect your SI.
|
It is too early to tell. But we think that it would be rather nice to keep the race. Of course there will still be plenty of tests to do, in order to improve our algorithms and come closer to reality!
The reason why we may not keep this type of race is because one day or another players will start to ask for a Golden Race with mounted trot, Team Cup with mounted trot, handicap races with mounted trot, end of month finals with mounted trot, a schedule for the mounted trot and one for the harness race etc etc...We must also not forget the chart updates, the horse's card index and every other things needed to distinguish between harness and mounted. Meaning that it would really require a lot of work in order to keep the mounted trot. Managing 3 disciplines is already a lot of work so adding another one is kind of scary.
|
Yes it will be eligible, as the ResNet40days must only be negative when registering the horse for the qualifying race. After that the horses are sorted with respect to the number of points they obtained and the ResNet40days is not considered. As long as its ResNet40days remains negative a horse may be registered again and again in one of the qualifying races.
|
Yes, there is no limit on the number of qualifying races to which a horse may be registered to. As long as a horse has a negative ResNet40days, it may be registered to each qualifying race. The more a horse participates in races, the greater its chance of scoring points and therefore qualify for the Cheltenham Royal Derby on the 30th.
|
No, each month, this competition is only open to jumpers of 2, 4 and 7 years.
|
It belongs to every members of the team. In other words every team member owns an equal share of the team account.
|
The money can come from four different sources:
- The “winning bonus”: when a member of the team wins a public race (international or regional), 2% of the race's registration fees goes to the team account.
- When a team creates a regional race and that the latter starts with a least 3 runners, a 5% commission fee is credited to the team account.
- A 15% commission is credited to the team account when a new player (member of the team) makes his/her second deposit.
- Any team member can transfer funds from his/her account to the team account.
|
To transfer funds from the team account to the team members accounts the team admin must use the “Payout to team members” function. When using this function the team admin can choose to share all the funds on the team account or just part of it. The amount selected by the team admin is then shared equally among the team members.
|
No, if a team member is resigning he/she is not entitle to a compensation, as a player leaving the team is no more co-owner of the team account. But then you can try to convince the team admin to “Payout to team members” before you leave the team.
|
It depends on the team's rule. Exclusion rules can be configured by team admins and they can choose between the two rules below:
1) Exclusion with compensation, meaning that the banned player will receive a share of the team account and this share is equal to the amount on the team account divided by the current number of members in the team.
2) Exclusion without compensation.
Each time the exclusion rule is changed a private message is sent to every team member. Once the exclusion rule is changed, for the next 24hrs no team member can be banned.
